About Ethiopia Guji - Operation Cherry Red
This is another outstanding lot of natural processed coffee we have sourced through Trabocca’s Operation Cherry Red project this year - this time from the Guji Zone. This is our second shipment of the Guji - as we’ve had such great responses from our first shipment at the end of 2011.
The Guji Zone lies in the far South within the Oromia Region in Sidamo Province. Nick travelled here on his trip to Ethiopia in November of last year at the beginning of the year’s harvest season. You can see photos and a short travellogue from the trip from our newsletter here and more photos are up on our FlickR Page
As part of the Operation Cherry Red project - this coffee underwent meticulous cherry selection, separation, post harvest handling and drying to create a remarkable cup with bold layered fruits and clarity.
Grown by small holder farmers who each typically have about 0.5 hectares, and deliver their coffee to privately run mills, this coffee is farmed at mean altitudes of between 1700 -1850 metres above sea level.
This coffee is being shipped from origin in 60kg GrainPro bags
About Sidamo
Sidamo is a province in the southern part of Ethiopia, with its capital city at Irgalem, and after 1978 at Awasa.
Through our friends at Trabocca we source our Sidamo coffees from a number of direct relationship cooperatives and farmer groups; almost all of these coffees are grown at between 1800-2200mtrs above sea level and most of the cooperatives produce both washed and unwashed coffees.
Al coffees in Sidamo are harvested between October and January with the main shipping period commencing in April through to about September each year.
