About Indonesia Java Timur Bondowoso
This coffee has been sourced specifically for us by our project partners in East Indonesia.
This lot of washed coffee comes from the small provincial town and regency of Bondowoso in Eastern Java - about 5 hours drive from the city of Surabaya. The lot is a clean and pleasant washed coffee with an elegant acidity, creamy body and honeyed/sugar-cane like sweetness.
We feel this lot would work well as either a major part of a blend or could equally stand on its own as a single espresso or filter coffee.
We are awaiting more detailed information from our suppliers on this lot which we will update as it arrives
About Java
At an altitude of between 1300 and 1500 meters above sea level, Java’s coffee production is predominately cultivated on the Ijen Plateau, in eastern Java. With a rich history dating back to Dutch colonisation, Java has developed an international reputation for its coffee production. Large government estates, built by the Dutch in the 18th century are where Java’s production is mainly concentrated. The five largest estates are Blawan (Belawan or Blauan), Jampit (Djampit), Pancoer (Pancur), Kayumas and Tugosari, together covering more than 4,000 hectares.
Coffee from Java is known for its clarity in comparison to other Indonesian coffees. Given that in most cases the coffee is fully wet processed Java’s are generally quite clean cupping, yet are also well known for their viscous body.
